Society is evolving so rapidly that sometimes it’s hard to remember how things used to be. The speed at which technology advances is quickly changing how the world works. It’s 40 years since we first went to the moon, yet the computer that sent us there had less power than a modern calculator! Lets face it there are somethings we all experienced growing up that our children will never have to know about, heck there are somethings I experienced growing up that people 10 years younger than me don’t remember! I’ve always being slightly skeptical about the debate over Global Warming. I feel that that people on both sides of the argument have questionable reasons for their feelings on the subject. The oil companies obviously don’t want people to believe in it, but then on the other side you have people who perhaps see this as a way to political capital, to keep themselves in the media spotlight and in the public mind. Don’t get me wrong I’m not against cutting are CO2 emissions, I’m just questioning whether we should believe everything. Isn’t it only right that we look at contradicting information as well? You’d have had to have been on the moon for the last few months or dead not to have noticed that the world seemed to go into economic melt down.
Personally I find the whole mess that the financial institutions have managed to get themselves into rather disturbing. These are people that are supposed to be responsible for managing massive amounts of money and yet it seems that they cant quite grasp the concept of not borrowing more than you can afford, or equally as likely they didn’t care so long as they made money personally. As it’s Friday and I am heading away for the weekend I thought I would go with an amusing tidbit.
It’s not often you hear the most powerful man in the world swearing but as April Winchell points out if he reads the audio version of his own book about his life and he has a friend that did swear quite a bit he is bound to do.
Simply put a friend of Obama’s that he talks about a fair bit in the book Dreams from My Father set him self apart from the rest by swearing a lot. This means in the audio version Obama has to speak the swear words he included as quote originally. I give it a matter of weeks before some one does a remix
Listen to the audio snipits and read the article here
There’s been a lot of hype over the last few years about the Nanny State, and that Big Brother is watching. It’s true, more and more CCTV cameras are being installed, we are becoming used to being captured on film constantly (in the UK an average person is captured on CCTV over 300 times per day). As mentioned on ArsGeek a British band called The Get Out Clause have found a novel way of using this to their advantage. It can cost a hell of a lot of money to produce a music video, way beyond the reach of most up and coming bands. So to get round this, the band got themselves filmed on around 80 CCTV cameras and then requested copies of the footage under the Data Protection Act, then using some relatively inexpensive video editing tools they splided it together to produce a good video. That what you can do when you put your mind to it
No they just need to get someone to build them a decent website (landing pages are so 1990’s!)
I don’t usually have a problem with people in authority recording more information about me, I’m not scared that giving them a copy of my DNA could lead to a problem. I would happily carry an ID card with me everywhere I went if needed (although I’m not completely for the idea of having to pay a stupendous amount but thats another story). I’m an innocent person, I have nothing to hide, after all its not like the information can be falsied by some one holding a grudge against me. Also, despite some recent blunders the data is usually pretty secure so it’s not as if there is much chance of someone getting hold of my DNA (and at this point in time what good would it do them there are no clones yet!*). I don’t even have a problem with having my background checked out by a prospective employer, I was going to be a teacher once upon a time so I have had a CRB check run on me. What I do have a problem with is a database were information can be submitted about an individual by an employer with no evidence to back it up. Continue reading »
For the past few years I’ve worked for company that supply, set up and train users on software. The software it’s self connects to hardware components over various communication methods, the main one being TCP/IP. Obviously during this time I’ve dealt with quite a few different IT departments and I’ve noticed various stereotypes, each IT admin can be usually be classified as one of these stereotypes or some times a combination of a few Continue reading »
At the moment there isn’t a lot on the site. I’m one of those people who seems to work on about three or four things at once. At the moment I’ve started to thing about what I am going to put on here, I’m partly learning how to operate the new iMac I’ve bought myself and to add to my troubles it looks like I am going to be learning a new computer programming language either delphi or C# depending on various influences at work.
Along with working on content for this site I’m also probably going to use it as a practicing ground while I learn more about CSS as I’m considering improving my web skills some what. Keeping myself way to busy really.
The choice as to whether or not we use C# or Delphi is really governed by which of the two we can use to integrate a MS SQL database into our new software product. I’ve always been drawn more towards to development work and now work are wanting to draw me more in to that side of the business I am feeling slightly happier about the place in general. Still have my doubts about whether its the right place for me though.
Hopefully this will be the first step towards finally doing something with my web space. Although as most of my friends will testify, like a lot of my ideas they will last for a few weeks before I get bored and decide to move on to something else.
