You might not have heard, but today is WWDC. The day Apple gets a lot of developers (and fan boys) together to parade their new additions this coming year. Be that new features for the current iPhone or the new iPhone 3Gs (the s stands for speed by the way) or be it the latest version of the Mac OS Snow Lepoard and  what the upgrade price will be.

Anyone using something like Stumbleupon will be sick to the back teeth of coming across websites going back and forth over the new features so we thought we would have a little break from this and give you a diversion. Continue reading »

One of the things I miss on my Mac is the ability to lock my screen when I walk away from it. It’s not just that  I am worried about some one playing a practical joke on me if they have unattended access to my computer. It’s all too easy for some one to accidently do something while I am away that could cause some of my work to get lost.

This is where MacLock comes in to play. MacLock activates the Fast User Switching in Mac OS X . When you click on MacLock it will appear that you have logged out. But the difference is that all the applications and documents you had open will still be there when you enter your password. It’s just like locking your PC when using Windows. Very useful if there are people around you don’t trust when you leave your Mac by it’s self.

Everyone knows the adverts, both the Mac version and the Microsoft retorts. The Mac ones are quite satirical, they poke fun at the difference between the two

I recently read an article on Daring Fireball that points out how Microsoft missed the point of these adverts when they made their reply. The Mac adverts highlighted the fact Mac mad the computer and the OS while PC is a generic term for a collection of machines made by different manufactures. The Mircosoft adverts merely re-enforced this fact. Read the article here for a better understandng

As some of you may know I have quite a few computers that I use (at last count I had 1 x windows (desktop), 1 x windows (laptop), 1 x iMac, 1 x MacBook Pro and 1 x Asus eee running Linux). Depending on where I am I could be working on anyone of the machines at any time during the day. I quite often start working on a file on one machine before moving to another later in the day (i.e. start at work and finish at home). The hardest part of being mobile and migrating between computers like I do is making sure that each version of the file is kept upto date on all the machines. Obviously I could keep the files on a usb stick and just carry them around on that, but to be honest I don’t always remember to take my stick with me. Yesterday I posted about a free offer from File Savr a useful tool for transferring files to people. But that still relies onme remembering to upload the files before I leave. Late last night I got an email about a service I’ve been waiting to try for a while
Dropbox has been in private beta for a while now but yesterday I got an email telling me that it was open to the public.

If you’ve read any of my previous posts, you might know that a few months back I gave into the dark side and bought myself an iMac. I’ve been playing around with, and yeah I like my Mac, I’m never gonna be one of the fanboys that rave on and on about how much better Mac OS than Windows because quite honestly I don’t think either of them are that much more oustanding than each (that’s Mac OS vs XP not vs Vista at the moment I would still take XP over Vista) Continue reading »
