One of the things I miss on my Mac is the ability to lock my screen when I walk away from it. It’s not just that  I am worried about some one playing a practical joke on me if they have unattended access to my computer. It’s all too easy for some one to accidently do something while I am away that could cause some of my work to get lost.

This is where MacLock comes in to play. MacLock activates the Fast User Switching in Mac OS X . When you click on MacLock it will appear that you have logged out. But the difference is that all the applications and documents you had open will still be there when you enter your password. It’s just like locking your PC when using Windows. Very useful if there are people around you don’t trust when you leave your Mac by it’s self.

Those nice people over at MacHeist are giving away a free copy of DEVONthink the powerful Mac research tool. DEVONthink allows users to add documents, web pages, pictures, links and plain text to its database. It’s powerful grouping and searching capabilities then make it an easy way to review the info.

To get it for free all you have to do is follow MacHeist on Tweeter and post a direct reply to them (there is even a special button on their page to do this. If you’re interested, follow this link

It’s not often big corporations done something for the little man, especially not some one like Mircosoft. As anyone who’s read some of my older posts will know I’m not exactly a big fan of the guys over at Microsoft but for once I am happy to speak about something good they’ve done.

A dot co.uk domain is free for two years and a dot com is free for a year. The only down side is you need to register with a credit card (but then thats normal really) but you are shown a bill stating the discount and it’s microsoft so should be trust worthy on that front.

The domains are shown as Office Live Busness accounts but don’t let that stop you from using it for personal use. See here to register

Everybody loves getting something for free right? Well at the moment I know of two things you can get for free that are both extremely useful.

First of all their is Avarton Software’ Air Sharing app for the iPhone. I’ve had an iPhone for about a month now and its pretty much the best puchase I have made in the last few years. The ease with which it sync’s it’s self with my emails, diary and contact list on my Mac is amazing. It’s useful to have access to my diary especially as I am on the road a lot. But Air Sharing brings something even better to the iPhone, with Air Share installed any computer running Windows, Mac or Linux can mount your iPhone as a wifi device and then transfer files to it just like you would any other file storage on your next work via the explorer/finder or alternatively you can access it for downloading only via your web browser.
