Common knowledge has us believe that the best desicions are those made when time is allowed to consider all the facts and conditions surrounding the available choices. That a good choice can only be made after a good deal of effort has been put into thinking about the possible outcomes of the choice we are about to make. As if the chances of making the right choice are proportional to the amount of time spend considering the problem. What if this is a misconception, what if the idea that the only way to make an accurate or ‘correct’ choice can only be made after a period of reflection is wrong? There is plenty of evidence that this might be the case, how many times do we see people in a situation make choices on the fly that turn out to be correct. The whole of human instinct is basiced around this ability to take a single glance at a given situation and come to some kind of conclusion about it. The fact that we do not completely trust our instincts make the conclusions they derive no less valid. Read more »

The iPhone has probably been one of this year’s must have gadgets.I’ve had one for a couple of months now and all in all I have found it to be the most useful of things. It allows me to access my work calendar and emails from virtually anywhere I might want to. One of the things I have wanted to do is use my Skype/MSN/Yahoo account on there. Allowing me to keep in touch with my contacts from online easily. I’ve previously managed to find free applications that will connect to MSN and to Yahoo, but alas not for Skype. Out of the three services, Sykpe is the most important one for me to be able to connect to. I use Skype as part of my work. It’s the messaging application all of our office uses and it is also used by our South Africa based developers, so it would be extremely useful for me to be able to connect to it when I am on the road.

Mention writer’s block and everyone thinks of the fiction writer who in the middle of writing a book suddenly comes a to a point where they cant decide where to take the story next. All the plans for character development and plot line go out the window. I’ve had my iMac for near on a year now and my Mac Book Pro for about 8 months and I have to say I’m still pretty impressed with it. I like the fact that it’s easy to use and everything pretty much just works with it. I plug in my iPod my iMac opens iTunes, same when I plug in my iPhone. That’s not to say I hate Windows and all things Microsoft. I am by no means an Apple fan boy. I like both operating systems and feel they both have a place in the world. There are lots of ways I feel Windows could do with emulating how Mac Os does things. I’m not going to debate the differences, the pros and the cons. God knows there are enough sites and forums out there where flame wars between the two sets of users are in full swing. There is one thing on my Mac I am really not impressed with, that’s the Might Mouse. Read more »
