One thing I hate is being lied to. I like honesty, tell me the truth and I might be a bit upset but I will appreciate you for it. You will go up in my estimations for your honesty. Tell me a lie that I find out about and well, you’re in for a quick route to my most hated list. One thing is for sure I won’t do any kind of business with you. I’m not the only person with this point of view I am sure, everyone hates being lied to and in this day of search engines it’s much easier to be caught out than you would think. Continue reading »

A lot of people would say the only thing Internet Explorer is good for is downloading something else to surf the web with. Truth be told, I’d tend to agree. My current browser of choice is Firefox and it has been for a long time now. That’s not just because I spend most of time using a Mac either. Even when I use a Windows machine I still look for the the FF icon to do my web browsing. I only use IE when I have no other option, like if I am using an ASP based app which does seem to need IE to run properly. Judging from the ever growing market share of other browsers against IE. Its a fair assumption that more and more people I coming to realise that they don’t have to be stuck with what comes installed on their machine. Continue reading »

You might not have heard, but today is WWDC. The day Apple gets a lot of developers (and fan boys) together to parade their new additions this coming year. Be that new features for the current iPhone or the new iPhone 3Gs (the s stands for speed by the way) or be it the latest version of the Mac OS Snow Lepoard and  what the upgrade price will be.

Anyone using something like Stumbleupon will be sick to the back teeth of coming across websites going back and forth over the new features so we thought we would have a little break from this and give you a diversion. Continue reading »

Anyone who knows me will tell you that I’m not a fan of Microsoft. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t dislike them for some of their shoddy software, I don’t dislike them because I am a Mac fanboy even though I own two Mac’s I have Windows too!

The reason I dislike Microsoft is for the way they seem to not give care about their user’s rights. In a time where people are growing more and more conscious of what is getting installed on their computer, of being security aware Microsoft have gone an done it once again.

One of the things I miss on my Mac is the ability to lock my screen when I walk away from it. It’s not just that  I am worried about some one playing a practical joke on me if they have unattended access to my computer. It’s all too easy for some one to accidently do something while I am away that could cause some of my work to get lost.

This is where MacLock comes in to play. MacLock activates the Fast User Switching in Mac OS X . When you click on MacLock it will appear that you have logged out. But the difference is that all the applications and documents you had open will still be there when you enter your password. It’s just like locking your PC when using Windows. Very useful if there are people around you don’t trust when you leave your Mac by it’s self.

Those nice people over at MacHeist are giving away a free copy of DEVONthink the powerful Mac research tool. DEVONthink allows users to add documents, web pages, pictures, links and plain text to its database. It’s powerful grouping and searching capabilities then make it an easy way to review the info.

To get it for free all you have to do is follow MacHeist on Tweeter and post a direct reply to them (there is even a special button on their page to do this. If you’re interested, follow this link

Everyone knows the adverts, both the Mac version and the Microsoft retorts. The Mac ones are quite satirical, they poke fun at the difference between the two

I recently read an article on Daring Fireball that points out how Microsoft missed the point of these adverts when they made their reply. The Mac adverts highlighted the fact Mac mad the computer and the OS while PC is a generic term for a collection of machines made by different manufactures. The Mircosoft adverts merely re-enforced this fact. Read the article here for a better understandng

For the past week or so I’ve been using a new email client. I’ve been a big fan of Thunderbird for a while, I like it’s simplistic style and it’s easy of use. I also like that it’s not made by Microsoft! The biggest draw back I’ve found with Thunderbird is it’s search routines. I find it to not always be reliable for looking for things that I know are in my inbox somewhere. I stumbled across Postbox and thought I would give it a try. Continue reading »

As anyone who knows me will tell you, I love my iPhone. Out of the gadgets I own it is probably my favourite one. There are two features I feel it really misses though. One of them is the ability to record videos (something you cant really do with out jailbreaking, not gonna do that just yet). The other is the ability to record audio files. Continue reading »

I’ve had my iMac for near on a year now and my Mac Book Pro for about 8 months and I have to say I’m still pretty impressed with it. I like the fact that it’s easy to use and everything pretty much just works with it. I plug in my iPod my iMac opens iTunes, same when I plug in my iPhone. That’s not to say I hate Windows and all things Microsoft. I am by no means an Apple fan boy. I like both operating systems and feel they both have a place in the world. There are lots of ways I feel Windows could do with emulating how Mac Os does things. I’m not going to debate the differences, the pros and the cons. God knows there are enough sites and forums out there where flame wars between the two sets of users are in full swing. There is one thing on my Mac I am really not impressed with, that’s the Might Mouse. Continue reading »
