As I may have mentioned before I dabble in web site design when asked to by some of my friends. I don’t claim to be a master but I know enough CSS to get by. One of the things I have always had problems doing before is placing a div so that it always appears at the bottom of another, in effect creating a footer using nested divs. It wasn’t until tonight that I came across a solution to this problem that was so simple I cant believe I haven’t seen it before.
A lot of the hacks I have tried before have involved using absolute positioning and other such methods that aren’t always that reliable from what I have seen. Basically instead of two divs (main and footer) you have three (main, content and footer)
The main div contains bother your content and footer divs and has a height of say 600px.
The content div sits inside this and is given a height of 95%.
The footer div is also inside the main div and has a height of 5%.
Thats all there is to it. I know it might well seem simple to a lot of people out there, but I am sure there others like me that have had this problem, hopefully it will be useful for them
