The iPhone has probably been one of this year’s must have gadgets.I’ve had one for a couple of months now and all in all I have found it to be the most useful of things. It allows me to access my work calendar and emails from virtually anywhere I might want to. One of the things I have wanted to do is use my Skype/MSN/Yahoo account on there. Allowing me to keep in touch with my contacts from online easily. I’ve previously managed to find free applications that will connect to MSN and to Yahoo, but alas not for Skype. Out of the three services, Sykpe is the most important one for me to be able to connect to. I use Skype as part of my work. It’s the messaging application all of our office uses and it is also used by our South Africa based developers, so it would be extremely useful for me to be able to connect to it when I am on the road.
I was holding out hope that Skype might get around to releasing their own iPhone app before much longer. Hoping they would come to my rescue but I no longer need to wait. Fring is a free application that can be used to access your Skype contacts from anywhere, it also links in to a host of over Instant Messaging services. The real bonus of Fring is that when you have wifi access you can also use it to make calls via your Skype account to your contacts.
Fring provides the features I need to be able to keep in touch with my contacts list.
